Out to write his own Legacy

Legacy Bound will attempt to turn around his fortunes against My Gladiola up the straight at Flemington.

One thing trainer Robbie Griffiths knows about Legacy Bound is he is a winner.

Legacy Bound lines up for start number seven in the Listed VRC Sprint Classic (1100m) at Flemington on Saturday looking to improve upon his Flemington record and register win number five.

The three-year-old son of Ole Kirk has raced at Flemington on four occasions, for two wins and a third, also finishing fourth when drawn nearest the rail with the placegetters all coming wider than what he did.

Three of those starts – including his two wins – were at 1100m while his third placing came over 1200m in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes behind Tentyris and My Gladiola in the spring.

That pair resumed in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington last month, finishing one-two.

Tentyris is missing from Saturday's race, but My Gladiola is there, a filly Griffiths concedes may be a stumbling block on Saturday.

"She had the upperhand in the Coolmore, but she came from off the speed and we did more work up the front, and she might be better than us, who knows," Griffiths said.

"She was also fantastic in Lightning, and she gets the weight advantage on us here.

"Probably on facts and figures, she beats us, but it doesn't always work out like that, as we all know, and he's got a great win record.

"Whether that's because he's been in easier races than hers, who knows."

Legacy Bound resumed with an 1100m victory at Flemington on March 7 and Griffiths said the sprinter had come through that race well.

"He certainly hasn't gone backwards," Griffiths said.

"He went into the race in good order. He won, he came out of it in good order.

"He's gone forward, but he only does as much as he has to in training, so we just keep him ticking over, but he had a good gallop on Monday morning.

"The stats on his sectional times from his first-up indicated he would have run really well in the Newmarket, if that means anything.

"He's a winner, he's won down the straight a couple of times now and let's hope we can do it again."

Griffiths said a trip to Adelaide for the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville in May was on the agenda for Legacy Bound.
